I’m sure you’ve heard the cliché from Anthony J. D΄Angelo “Your mind is like a parachute, it only works if it’s open”. Isn’t that so true?
I made a recent purchase at my local Apple store and got an iPad2. Now I know Apple’s products aren’t the cheapest around, but they are some of the most innovated. In any event, I heard 3 days before my 14 day return period that the iPad3 was now available. So I decided to return the iPad2 and order the iPad3. My wife asked if they would take the return because it had been used to which I said I believe so.
They did take the return, but what was so memorable to me during that experience was the way the sales person (James) handled the return and treated us. There weren’t any ill feelings about the situation; in fact he did everything right in my opinion. He handled it smoothly, professionally, and even answered questions I had as they came to mind. And it wasn’t just James who had this attitude, it was the person I spoke to before James who routed me to him (I forgot her name). My belief is that the buying experience should be just as good as the returning experience.
So you say, no big deal, they charge a lot, so you get good service. Well, I say it is a big deal and here’s what made this event so profound. Everyone can provide this same level of service that was experienced at the Apple store I went to last night. You see, it doesn’t cost a dime to do; it just takes willingness and attitude of serving, and doing so will create astonishing results in your life.
The good news is this means we can all provide a high level of service to everyone we meet and there are at least 2 benefits to doing so. One is that you will meet with better results in your life and that’s why you’re here right now. Secondly, the world will be a much better place for all of us if we all have a serving attitude towards each other. Pleasing and making people happy is contagious, like laughter. So pass it on today.
Creating a sense of appreciation for the person you are talking to and conveying that will require you change the way you think and that’s great if you are willing to. One thing to keep in mind however is to be sure you get buy-in from those around you to do the same. It will make a much better impact in your business and life if everyone shares and delivers the same high touch service as that of what you are doing. This consistency in experience by your customers will result in phenomenal growth and success.
You can’t leave it up to chance, you must insist that everyone you work with abide by this philosophy and if they are unwilling to change the way they think and join you, then you will need to find new people who can and will uphold your new way of thinking. Your life and business are too important to just shrug off the concepts presented in this article. You owe it to yourself, business and business colleagues so that everyone can prosper and live a life of complete bliss.
Have a great week,
